The power of inclusive education

While creative ideas can come from the process of perspective-sharing, diversity alone isn’t enough to create the environment in which people build relationships across differences. The environment needs to be welcome, and leaders need to demonstrate their commitment and model this asset in their community. In this way, civility sets the stage for inclusivity. The same is true in the classroom environment. As University of Washington psychologist Ilene Schwartz explains in this TED Talk (11 minutes), classrooms become places where all children can flourish when teachers take the leadership to model, value, and teach their children inclusive practices through intentional daily instruction.
